Duke Center for Civic Engagement
Duke University, Durham
DukeEngage provides funding for Duke undergraduate students to pursue immersive (8-week minimum) civic engagement experiences in Durham, N.C., in cities across the U.S. and abroad. Group programs that focus on the arts available; topics include literacy through photography, empowerment through the arts, creating collaborative historical memory projects and more. In addition to working with nonprofits, students participate in Duke-sponsored readings, historical neighborhood tours and weekly reflection sessions. A pre-departure training, DukeEngage Academy, prepares students to serve across cultures and acknowledge community history and culture. Founded in 2008. Supported by the Duke Endowment and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
