Certificate in Public Scholarship
The Simpson Center for the Humanities
The Graduate School
University of Washington, Seattle
Fifteen-credit, cross-disciplinary program for graduate students interested in: public scholarship and other fields that work with culture as a form of public practice; campus-community partnerships; new forms of scholarly dissemination such as digital publication, multimedia formats and performance; emerging trends and methodologies; and other topic areas. Curriculum includes: introductory course, Scholarship as Public Practice; a variety of graduate seminars and electives; a practice-based Capstone Project; and a Portfolio Capstone. Students “engage creatively and critically with public and applied forms of scholarship in research, teaching and/or community-engagement projects.” Upon admission to the certificate, UW students also become Simpson Center Public Scholarship Fellows. Founded in 2010. Directed by Bruce Burgett.
