CALIFORNIA | Degree Program
M.A. in Applied Theatre Arts
School of Theatre
University of Southern California
Newly launched program for community-based artists, educators, therapists, social workers and political activists to explore how theater can be applied to non-traditional theatrical settings. Rigorous one-year (plus one-summer) program. Boal-inspired curriculum teaches students theory and practice of Forum Theatre, Rainbow of Desire and Legislative Theatre. Students partner with grassroots organizations in Los Angeles to develop community-based theater projects that advance social, political or therapeutic change. Program culminates in four-week externship with an international applied theater organization; students receive subsidy to support travel and housing costs. Apply in January for fall start. Directed by Brent Blair.
