CALL TO ALL ARTISTS AND COMPANIES WORKING IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

Do you have any evaluation or research reports describing your work?

The Unit for the Arts and Offenders (UK) has commissioned a review of literature and practice in the arts and criminal justice sector, to be carried out by the Centre for Applied Theatre Research (funded by Arts Council of England, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Offenders’ Learning and Skills Unit at the Department for Education and Skills ). The review will survey research and practice in the arts and criminal justice sector within the UK and internationally. The research findings will identify the range of different models of practice in the sector including aims and objectives, methods/process, outcomes/impact and theoretical models drawn upon by practitioners to plan and develop practice.

We would like to hear from any artist or company working in the sector, including professionals and companies working in prevention, custodial or resettlement contexts. We are actively seeking to represent the wide variety of arts practice happening in the sector, including theatre, drama, visual arts, music, dance, opera, sculpture, crafts, literature and cross art form projects.

In addition, we want to gather all kinds of literature relating to practice, either published or unpublished, including anecdotal or descriptive accounts of projects, evaluation reports, research reports, articles, reviews etc.

Please contact us if you have any published or unpublished reports or other literature relating to your work. The final report will support arts practice in the sector in the future as well as inform future research. All literature that is used will be fully referenced and credited to the source in the final publication. The report is due to be completed by January 2004.

CATR is a research and practice unit in the Drama Department of Manchester University. We carry out a range of different evaluation and research projects in the applied arts sector.
