i am wondering if anyone could offer any advice or information regarding granting organizations for dance/art/performance journals.

currently, my project seems to fall somewhere between: dance scholarship, emerging fields, performance journal, and punk zine. i have been looking in the usual places, whose categories are either too tight, or do not seem to exist for alternative dance/art/performance writing/journalism/investigation.

thank you for your help,
ruined sissy

Funding for publications has always been difficult. It's rare you can find a funder with a category that comfortably fits even traditional publication models. Rather, you have to look at how what you're doing might creatively fit into various funding guidelines as a "service to the field" or "preserving heritage," or "documention," etc. Where you think you might have a creative fit, contact the grantmaker and ask them if they would consider your application.

Also, look at a funder's track record to see if and where they've funded other publications.

Regardless of how successful you are with grants, you'll undoubtedly need to generate the majority of your money from other revenue sources such as advertising, sales, subscriptions and good old private contributions.
