This is a joint initiative between local drug and alcohol agencies and Arts Care and is aimed at young people aged between 10-16 in South Wales, who have problems with or who are at risk of substance misuse. Working directly with the young persons drug and alcohol worker, referrals are passed to the Arts Development Worker to match with artists who will provide diversionary arts activities on a one to one basis. At present there are some 160 artists practicing drawing, painting, sculpture through to crafts and also including performance, music dance, digital media and computer generated music.
It is important to note that whilst the participants are with this project they are also still engaged with the SUDDS worker and therefore the participants can be jointly evaluated.
I am looking for similar work going on, to build a dialogue about development and evaluation ideas. But also just interested to hear what else is going on in this field.
