"THEATRE FOR SOCIAL CHANGE and MULTICULTURAL UNDERSTANDING
PTO Post Conference Workshop
Sunday April 14, 10am-4pm
at the Radisson (PTO hotel site)

From his personal commitment to community-based work, stimulating deep dialogue about cultural diversity and related issues through theatre, to his deep love of this kind of work (that is truly infectious) and making lasting connections between people, Michael is an extraordinary workshop facilitator and artist--generous, insightful, imaginative and attentive-- who learns as much from those who participate in the work as the participants do.

Some background information:

Michael is an actor, writer, composer and community-based artist who has worked for many years creating and performing theatre in various settings-- schools, universities, community centers, and especially with inmates in our national system of correctional facilities and detention centers. He regularly facilitates Arts and Education workshops in schools and on campuses and uses TO and other drama and anti-oppression strategies in his work.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will use TO and other anti-oppression techniques to stimulate dialogue about cultural diversity and racism. We will examine diversity and racism as well as related issues of sexism, classism, homophobia and other biases that divide us and prevent us from finding common ground. Our goal will be to increase awareness, empathy, understanding and empowerment towards action. The process will be interactive, highly experiential and driven by the creativity, insights and needs of the participants.
