WORLD COMMUNITY ARTS DAY
We wish to start a World Community Arts Day, on 17 Feb 2007, to raise awareness of how Community Art is a Global movement, its history, present day activities and the future.
Initially our idea was to ask those people we knew through The Craigmillar Festival and its world wide network. Of course Community Arts is much bigger than this, so if others wish to join us, that would be great. So hopefully it will generate a much bigger picture.
So in the the spirit of Community Arts. We are asking individuals, organisations, groups of people to an event in their own community to mark this day. The event could could just be a gesture or a larger event. To create a big global party!
It could be
1. Ongoing project you wish to highlight.
2. A website or discussion group
3. A small or large gathering
4. A walk or art performance
5. A Exhibition or art class
6. A poem
etc
The only criteria is that the Art must be a catalyst for sharing and caring. It would be Art in its widest form and include all the artforms plus more.
These are all linked by a communal email that goes out before to press and friends, where all the events are listed. So if you want to be part of this. have fun. If you want to contact us, great.
It really is a very simple idea.

rom website:

"But to get back to Community Arts and the up-coming world celebration
day, several artists and musicians are coming together to do a
"performance art" piece at the local bar, The Mine Shaft. There is a
sign above the bar that reads: MADRID HAS NO TOWN DRUNKS, WE ALL TAKE
TURNS.

Our contribution to WORLD COMMUNITY ARTS DAY will be to create a large
pastel mural on stage while a local band , the RUE BARBS play music
for the audience. The event will be digitally filmed and then on the
17th of February it will be uploaded on the web and become viewable
to all who are curious."

Community Arts Day Festival.
PROJECT: "INEFFABLE VOICE"

Original authors: Dramarte and Artefacto (México)

1.- "Ineffable Voice" Internet audio recording being played
the 24 hours of February 17th.
2.- Dramarte and Artefacto invite other artists living in
Mexico or other cities to adhere to our "Ineffable Voice".
3.-The audio will be recorded in CD's and shared with all
the other artists which decide to link to our concept to
create a new art expression of their own, using "Ineffable
Voice" audio recording as framework or stimulous.
The idea is to multiply the effect.
Those artists participating with Ineffable Voice will
express in their own artistic language, using the audio we
share with them.
4.- Translators of all languages are invited to participate, so
"Ineffable Voice" poem is translated to as many
languages as possible, including, of course, Mexican
Indian languages (oral traditions).
We are considering written and oral recordings.
The outcome of this apparently simple, but complex
project will depend on how many translators are willing
to collaborate, besides the artists that decide to

intervene on our audio creation, the "first generation"
that intends to multiply the essence of the Arts
Community Day Festival.
We aim to have the recording with all languages
ready for the Community Arts day on February 17th.
Spanish and English are available already, and we are
including them in this presentation.

AUDIO CHARACTERISTICS:
a) The "Ineffable Voice" poem will contain some audio effects:
∑ The diverse voices of water (rain, creeks, waves…)
∑ The mantra "Méxhico", (pronounced in the original indian word,
similar to "Meshico")
∑ Heart beats
b) The needed format for the oral collaborations (all
languages included) is MP3. This is what the radio
station requires to play the audio material.

LET'S CREATE THE GREAT ACTION TOGETHER

1.- Send us your collaboration
2.- We will send you:
∑ the text to be translated (first phase,
translators)
∑ and/or the audio material to be used in
your artistic expression. (2nd phase)
3.- Wherever you live, in your own city, community, in your
circle of artists, in your circle of friends, create the
artistic action.
4.- The only criterion "Ineffable Voice" asks participant
artists to take into account is:
the artistic expression will consider the solutions
that any person (the regular citizen) must use
everyday to protect the environment.
We all can contribute to save, and heal the Earth being
aware of our habits, and responsible of the use we make
of the earth resources.

For collaborations please contact :
dramarte@hotmail.com
artefacto@radiomexico.com
ineffablevoice@gmail.com

dramarte: Mónica Gabriela Gutiérrez, "Dr. Mars"
artefacto: Manuel Cruz Vazquez, "Ludo"

Artefacto is an internet based radio program about arts and culture,
produced in Mexico City.
"La Ventanita" ("the little window") is one of the program's section,
a place to flexibilize our maps about reality.
"La Ventanita" hosts the "Ineffable Voice" project.

Our first contact with the the Community Arts Day Festival mentioned
"La Ventanita" as the name of the project, but we have renamed it as
"Ineffable Voice", so we kindly ask you to consider this advance.

Cheers.

"INEFFABLE VOICE"

We cannot see things as they are
Because we see them as we are

"Only with the heart one can see well,
What is essential is invisible to the eye"

But if we see according to the way we are,
Our heart is impregnated with
The way we watch.

The story you tell yourself makes up your history.

I am you
You are me
But you and I
Are That…

Acting new stories
is brading new destinies
The planet deserves other denouement
Beyond you
Beyond me,

Life on Earth must prevail.

VOZ INEFABLE

Somos Eso…

Actuar nuevos cuentos
es tejer nuevos destinos
El planeta merece otro desenlace,
más allá de ti
más allá de mí,
La vida de la Tierra requiere prevalecer.

Beginning 22 Jan and running until 26 Jan my Site Specific group at
Falkirk College will be showing a video installation work. As part of
this, I am proposing to involve Special Needs Pupils, part of our
education community, by holding a "mail art" event for them on site (ie
in the Library) - this will be filmed to show their reactions to the
video installation and their participation in the "mail art". Mail
Art, which they will create themselves, will then be taken by them out
into the wider community of their friends and family. The film of this
event will be posted as my contribution to the WCA Day on 17 Feb this
year.

This Is What Peace Looks Like

At this point in time, with so many struggles both internal and external, it may be hard for
many of us to think of Peace or even what the word Peace means or represents. Our youth
battle this dilemma daily and are seeking ideas and answers. Our project, This Is What
Peace Looks Like, gives voice to our local youth and visions of Peace.

As part of the World Peace Conference that will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA,
Bobbe Besold and Chrissie Orr (both veteran artist/ activists) are developing, with local
youth, a nomadic photographic and sound installation on the theme of peace. The images
taken by the kids are digitally printed and applied to panels, creating large folding screens
with images on front and back. Their voices will be recorded with statements about peace.
These recording will be part of the installation. These will be installed at the World Peace
Conference in May 2007. Their final homes will be at the schools and youth shelters where
they were created.
On February 17th 2007 Bobbe and Chrissie will be working on this project with a group of
students at Santa Fe Indian School.

I am the coordinator of the Instep Project attached to Castlebrae High
School. In partnership with an artist from the voluntary organisation
International Service, we have involved children from our cluster
primaries in the initiation of a unique and exciting art project that
has travelled the world. Please see attached information from the
artist. International service also has a website for this project.
www.is-samedifference.org.uk <http://www.is-samedifference.org.uk/>
(please note that the gallery is ongoing and will eventually contain
all postcards designed by the participants.)

On the 5th of March, International Service, the Instep Project and
Castlebrae High School will be launching this exhibition in
Craigmillar at the local art centre called Space. It will reside there
for at least a week. During this time all schools, community groups
and members of the public will be invited to view this original piece
of art and also add to it by designing their own postcards which will
be added to the installation. An open evening will also be held so
that the parents of the school children can view the work that has
been done. It will then tour Britain and the other partnership
countries that were involved in its creation.

JANUARY 27- February 2, 2007

In addition to the music mural at the Mine Shaft, a new idea has come
in what may be done in Madrid on WORLD COMMUNITY ARTS DAY.

It is a very simple concept and at the end result will benefit a few
small shops.

The idea is to create a kind of Hollywood style Walk of the Stars...

Members of our community will plant their hands and signatures as
well as decorate a one-foot square cement slab. When dried the squares
will be set in the gravel to provide a decorative path to individual
shops.

As the plan develops photos will be posted to show how we went about it.

The project aims to use art and creativity workshops to boost the confidence and self-esteem of children living with HIV/AIDS, conflict, disability and extreme poverty in each of International Service’s programme countries. The idea is to make a series of collaborative art exhibitions of children’s work, culminating in a large touring exhibition in the UK bringing development awareness messages to the public.

The idea for my contribution to World Community Arts Day is to begin a
project:Happy Arts Postcards.

I have started this on-line and I am in touch with the libraries as
they have shown an interest to start this within my local library. (It
may even spread to other libraries and centres. You never know.)

It’s meant to be fun, and as you suggested a catalyst for caring and

Many contributed in 2007, here are some great examples from last year, which are on the website. Hopefully this will give a flavour of the range of work. Hopefully this will inspire you to take part. Much more can be seen on the WCAD website where all projects are listed.

For the first year and to get things started we started by asking those who are connected with the Craigmillar Festival Society as we know this group of friends is worldwide, in particular to remember a remarkable man Reg Bolton who died in 2006. Of course Community Arts is much bigger than this, but others did come and join the party.

Art as a catalyst for caring and sharing

World Community Arts Day 2008 has gone really well this year and has more than tripled in size. It is now a Global festival. From Brazil to Slovenia, from Australia to Ireland, from The USA to Singapore, from Kenya to Canada.

The World Community Arts Day shows how many great projects there are that are based on Art for caring and sharing. From the CARF Street children of Brazil to the Pyramids of Peace in Kenya (acrobats promoting peace), from Walking against poverty in USA to The Community Arts Forum in Northern Ireland, from Charnwood Arts in England to Ken Wolverton in New Mexico, from Irena D in Slovenia who does art with children to the global Artist Meeting Place (AMP) and the Valentine Peace Project, from Actalive (Arts against AIDS) to the Level Green Institute in New York City to The Theatre of Celebration in The USA. From the "best drumming group in Scotland" Drumatik to The Peace Marker Project and on and on it goes. Then add all the Myspace, Flickr and You tube contacts and it really starts to build up. Individuals, families, groups and Community groups.

We have tried to monitor 25 out of the 200 plus sites involved, at present that stands at 100,000 plus hits.

From Community Radio stations to websites, many have featured us on their homepage. New WCAD Logo designed, new artwork, photos, music, etc. And as for the events from small to concerts halls, Workshops, a couple of murals, music in bars, fundraisers, Chinese Lanterns walks, to the many paperboats.

2009
As the websites will stay active, it will now just continue to grow through the year towards 2009. Our aim to create a world festival society for a day to illustrate how festival and celebration through art can provide answers. We invite you to be one of the websites/organisation for next years event.

The idea of being part of a creative world community has always been enthusiastically supported by Hummingbird's community youth leaders. The results of their actions on the 17th February can be seen in this video clip, which was filmed and edited by them and which they have
great pleasure in sharing with the rest of this wonderful world community.

INVITATION 3rd World Community Arts Day 2009 17 Feb Please pass on

World Community Arts Day 17/02/09

"ART AS A CATALYST FOR CARING AND SHARING"
http://www.communiversity.org.uk/worldcommunityartsday.htm

"We can either react in fear or anger to the state of our world thus
becoming part of the problem or respond creatively and become part of the
solution."

To create a World Festival Society for a day.

After the initial success of WCAD 2007 and 2008, it is hoped that you can
join us in 2008 and be creative to raise an important issue you believe in.
The first years have seen events from as far as Brazil, Slovenia, Scotland,
Australia, USA, Ireland, Mexico and many more. All we ask of you on that day
is to do an arts project, however small or large to mark this day. If you
can mark the event on your website in the build up to it that would
be great to. Even better contact us with your details so we can share the
event.

Or join one of the social networking groups on Myspace, Flickr, Facebook,
YouTube, etc.

PLEASE GO TO WEBPAGE TO SEE EXAMPLES OF WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN PREVIOUS YEARS

PLEASE PASS ON.
