BROOKLYN PLAYBACK COLLABORATIVE AUTUMN ‘06
Playback is a participatory, improvisational theater form that uses an impression, feeling or personal experience that an audience member contributes as the basis for a spontaneous, collective creation that is ‘played back’ as a theater piece to the group. In countries throughout the world, companies perform in hospitals, schools, prisons, community centers, street festivals as well as in church basements and theaters.
Participants will learn the theory and a variety of techniques used on the stage. Activities include playing co-operative games, singing and dancing, creative dramatics and lots of time for sharing and reflection.
Susan Metz (MS in Ed and (most of) MFA in Writing Poetry) is a graduate of the School of Playback Theatre and a 12-year practitioner-member of the International Playback Theater Network. She has presented PT workshops in Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, and Uruguay as well as in NYC. Susan retired from a long career teaching English and Psychology in NYC public high schools and has dedicated herself to helping transform our passive, consumerist culture into a participatory and egalitarian one.
