On October 12, 2006, Voices UnBroken (www.voicesunbroken.org), will perform as part of the Impact Festival at the Culture Project in New York City. Voices UnBroken is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing under-heard members of the community with the tools and opportunity for creative self-expression. Through creative writing workshops in jails, prisons, juvenile detention centers, Voices UnBroken nurtures the inherent need in all people to tell their stories and be heard. This reading at Shinbone Alley @ 45 Below will showcase the writing of Voices UnBroken participants in prison and out. This performance will embody the organization's vision of a community where people in prison are able to be present through their words and voices. Actors, poets, and performers will read the work of the participants. In addition, this will be an opportunity for program participants who are not incarcerated to read their writing alongside professional artists.
