The commercial center of a small town has traditionally served as a gathering place--the cultural and spiritual center-point of a community. Main Street was the source for groceries, shoe-repair, laundromats, and affordable restaurants. What happens when these services are relegated to the outskirts of town and one’s needs are no longer met in the center of town? What happens when the center becomes the spindle? We are seeking work that responds to the phenomenon of “the strip”. This can include themes such as: monoculture, race, class and gender divisions, ecology, geography, labor issues, socialization (for adults and youth) accessibility, real estate, or aesthetics.
The Space
Time & Space Limited (TSL) has two raw space galleries. The east gallery is 38'x 22' and the south gallery is 40'x30'. In the east gallery there are multiple wall panels made of sheet-rock with exposed brick separating the panels and one long stretch of wall that is 38' long. The south gallery's walls are all plywood that run continuously around three-quarters of the space. Work can be hung from the ceiling depending on weight.
TSL Gallery Submission Guidelines
ALL submitted work must have both a visual example and a written statement describing the work you are submitting.
Visual Example
TSL will accept examples of work in the following formats:
-slides
-digital images (emailed or on a CD)
-photographs
-DVD or VHS
If you are developing the piece specifically for this exhibit submit drawings and/ or a detailed description of the work that includes: materials, process, and approximated dimensions.
* All materials that are mailed to TSL Must include a self addressed envelope, if not your materials will not be returned.
Written Statement
All submissions must include a clear, succinct one page statement describing the piece. In the statement, you should elaborate on the issues you are responding to within your work. Add information that will help us to understand your submission and the concepts you used to create it. Keep in mind that your statement is a guide to your work for the curatorial staff.
*** Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered for exhibition. ***
