B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip Hop

The second annual "B-Girl-Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip-Hop" get underway in Minneapolis June 29, 2006, with a summit through July 2 and an exhibition and events through August 19. Presented by Intermedia Arts and a full complement of local partners, the multimedia festival encompasses "the four elements of hip-hop -- MCing, DJing, breakdancing and graffiti. The summit begins with "Hip-Hop Herstory," a keynote by Dr. Roxanne Shanté, and continues with live performances by artists from around the world, plus a fashion show, films, videos, workshops and panelsall over the city. "B-Girl Be" include stwo weeks of exploratory workshops, July 10-21, to introduce young women in the Twin Cities area to aerosol art, rap, hip-hop dance and digital media. [LINK]
