March 22, 2006 Reflections on Genocide Traveling to S.F.
A traveling exhibition about the systematic use of rape and deliberate attempt to spread HIV in the Rwandan genocide is coming to Theatre Artaud in San Francisco.
In 1994, some 250,000 women were raped during the genocide, and today 175,000 are living with HIV, says a preview on ascribe.org. The Artaud program, "Reflections on Genocide," March 23-26, 2003, includes “Speaking the Unspeakable,” a multimedia oral-history exhibit of stories of Rwandan genocide rape survivors. It's part of The Tubeho ("To Live Again") Project, launched recently by survivors' and women's groups in the U.S., U.K. and Rwanda. Also on the program are the premiere of "Unsing the Song" by Anne Bluthenthal and Dancers; a panel discussion on HIV and gender-based violence; and a Sunday interfaith commemorative service.
