A Poetry Workshop Planning Guide

CAN has a new tool in its Working Methods category: The Poetry Workshop Planning Guide from New Urban Arts in Providence R.I., an interdisciplinary art studio and gallery for high-school students. This guide is a manual to help high-schoolers teach poetry to junior-high students, including writing activities they can use when creating their own six-month curricula. The manual was developed by Sarah Meyer, a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago's youth-arts program. Now she's New Urban Arts' program director, and she linked us to her guide saying, "The thing I have really gotten from my studies at Columbia through the AYCD program was encouraging youth to do more than participate in 'programs I invent.' I now see youth leadership as intrinsic to youth arts." [LINK]
