Prisoners To Get Calls from Home on Community Radio

calls.jpg On December 12, 2005, a special holiday radio call-in show, "Calls from Home," will broadcast live greetings from their families to people incarcerated in the U.S., say Nick Szuberla and Amelia Kirby of Appalshop. Their "Holler to the Hood," an Appalshop human-rights media project, is producing "Calls From Home" to educate listeners about the effects of the growing prison industry in the United States. Once recorded, the show will be offered free of charge for rebroadcast to over 100 participating radio stations across the country. Visit their Web site for a list of stations or to listen to the live audio stream over WMMT. "Calls From Home "will air 7-11 p.m (Eastern), 12/12/05. The toll free number to call in is 888-396-1208.
