Artist Builds Toad Hall in Santa Barbara

toad.jpg Public sculptor Patrick Dougherty has created "Toad Hall" on a meadow at the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden in California. On display for two years, the installation is a life-size, two-story willow tower and a maze of pathways and chambers titled after the children's book "Wind in the Willows." Known as the "Stick Man," Dougherty uses sticks and tree saplings to twist and weave his materials into large works of art. He has created over 175 site-specific sculptures throughout the world, many of which are documented on his Web site. The SDBG Web site has an extensive slide show following the building of Toad Hall.
