New in Places To Study: BFA in San Francisco

There's a new BFA in Community Arts available at California College of Art (formerly California College of Arts and Craft) in Oakland and San Francisco. Beginning in fall 2005, CCA will offer an interdisciplinary Community Arts Program emphasizing service learning, civic engagement and diversity issues. Curriculum combines coursework in humanities, sciences, arts administration and cultural diversity with Core studios, studio electives and a required internship. The program draws on resources of the CCA Center for Art and Public Life, which creates partnerships with Bay Area public schools, health centers, nonprofit community organizations, museums, cultural centers and neighborhoods. Students graduate with an understanding of how historical, social, economic and political factors of communities relate to community art, says Center Director Sonia BasSheva MaƱjon.
